"Brute Father" Cover
This is a re-do. I did another for this one a ways back but it's different. It's from a True Story submission called "BRUTE FATHER."

Heed My Warning!
1958 True Secrets magazine
Sound too good to be true? Of course it does..." With a name like National Health it's gotta be the real thing, right? ad: Modern Confessions 1967
When I was a little girl I used to dream of wearing the long, sheer peignoirs (among other things) in these ads. I assumed I wasn't supposed to be looking at the ads considering the fact that they came from my parents bathroom and not the regular pile of household junk mail; ie, Lilian Carter catalogs, so I actually hid them under my mattress! My babysitter found a Fredericks of Hollywood there one day and used it as blackmail against me for what seemed like an eternity.
I wish I'd known this before I decided to quit..

Reefer Party
You want real kicks, the kind of thrill the gang whispers about but never really calls by name...
Feb. 1954 True Story submission
I have lots of fun doing these story pictures up. I'm doing lots of different stuff with these pics and vintage ads, etc. Mainly decoupage and stuff. I'll post some pics here soon.

Trailer Date!
True Confessions magazine, June 1958
My God, what a wild thing she is, shaking her stuff in that tiny little trailer. There's barely enough room for the guys. Well, looks like maureen will be sitting on laps before too long.

Thursday Stuff and The Scandal About Me
The active ingredients in the original Clearasil product were sulfur and resorcinol
The stuff was created in 1950 by Ivan Combe (an inventor of personal-care products) with the help of chemist, Kedzie Teller.
These "Draw Me" ads have also been around for quite awhile! I didn't realize how long until I started collecting magazines from the 50's. They've been around since 1914 and I happen to have grown pretty fond of their ads. I'm going to search them out and share them here with you.
Cheez-Its were first made by Sunshine Biscuit Company in 1921
This came from a January, 1951 issue of True Romance

Brute Father!
"True Story magazine is the great family behavior magazine. It covers the vital problems in human behavior among men, women and thier children. Through the actual experiences of other people like themselves, the readers of True Story obtain guidance and inspiration to assure their own happiness. The names and places in the stories have, of course, been changed."
"Brute Father" won the February 1954 reader submitted 'double length' story to the tune of $1000! That's a lotta lettuce in them days! A whole lotta lettuce!
I considered posting the complete story by typing it out word by word but when I saw the length of it I kind of changed my mind. If any of you would like the rest of the story, let me know and I'll put it up.
